If you decide not to go with a full service packing and shipping company, you first need to begin packing your bathroom by sorting your toiletries, bathroom accessories, linens, and cleaning supplies. When packing your bathroom, avoid taking anything that can be replaced inexpensively at your new home. Toilet brushes, empty shampoo bottles, and bars of soap should be thrown away before your move. Next, pack your bathroom items in small, sturdy boxes, keeping essentials in a separate, accessible container.
Sorting your bathroom
Although most people only use a few toiletries a day—soap, shampoo, toothpaste—a bathroom can be filled with bottles and bottles of unused junk. To sort your toiletries:
- Set aside everything that is used on a daily basis.
- Throw away anything empty or old.
- Keep only what you need, use and love.
Next, decide which bathroom accessories to toss. Cut ratty towels and use them as rags. Collect bathroom cleaning supplies and put them aside in your “cleaning box” for the day of the move.
Packing your bathroom
After sorting your bathroom, you should have a minimum amount to pack. Make sure to set aside daily essentials and medicines for the days following the move and keep liquids in leak-proof containers.
- Set aside essentials for day of your move.
- Store medicine and first aid supplies in a small plastic box to keep nearby.
- Pack your linens. Bath towels and washcloths can be folded and put into sturdy plastic bags.
- Pack toiletries in small boxes. If you are worried about anything leaking, use small plastic bags.
- Pack the top of boxes with lighter items like towels, rugs, or shower curtains.

- Brushes, hair accessories, and makeup should be packed in small toiletry bags or plastic boxes.
